Physical Rehabilitation
To reach maximum improvement following an orthopaedic injury or surgery, physical rehabilitation is often required. OSS offers comprehensive physical and occupational therapy services to meet the needs of all our patients. We also offer work conditioning to safely return injured workers back to their jobs and aquatic therapy for patients who need to do non weight bearing exercises. In addition to traditional therapists, OSS has two Certified Hand Therapists on staff who use specialized skills to assess and treat hand injuries/illnesses.
OSS Rehabilitation offers specialized services for spine, sports medicine, upper extremity, and hand problems, as well as general orthopaedic problems. Each of our therapists has completed an extensive course of study to enable them to evaluate specific problems and design individualized treatment programs to aid in recovery. Therapy services are offered at the OSS Powder Mill campus and the OSS East office.
McKenzie Method
For back and neck pain, our physical therapists are trained to use the McKenzie Method. Through comprehensive evaluation and treatment, our patients are educated, encouraged and empowered to use self-management skills to control and resolve symptoms and reduce the recurrence and severity of future aggravations. OSS has been chosen as the host site in south central Pennsylvania for the McKenzie Study Group. Other therapists at the Center are pursuing this prestigious accreditation.
Aquatic Program
Our aquatic program is very popular among patients. Pool therapy has proven to be an effective form of therapy. We can accommodate the very acute patient or competitive swimmer. Early weight bearing is made possible and increased mobility with range of motion exercises can be performed post surgically with an aquatic program. This service is available at the Powder Mill Road campus in York.
Conditioning Plus Program
Our Conditioning Plus Program is designed for the continuation of a current exercise program designed by an OSS physical therapist. The existing exercise program is continued without interruption following the completion of physical therapy sessions. The Conditioning Plus Program is staffed by our team of certified personal trainers.
The OSS therapy team utilizes a team approach that includes the physician, the physical therapist, the physical therapist assistant, and exercise technician to provide each patient with his/her own unique therapy program. Whether the goal is to improve movement, increase strength and endurance, reduce pain, or be better educated in managing a difficult condition, the staff has the expertise necessary to help patients reach their specific goals.
