Electrodiagnostic studies are used to better evaluate arm and leg pain, which are often significant for patients with spine problems.

An electrodiagnostic evaluation can be quite helpful in evaluating the nature of numbness, tingling, pain, weakness, fatigue and muscle cramps. The various electrodiagnostic tests that are useful in studying nerve and muscle function include
nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG). The examination usually takes anywhere from 20-60 minutes. There is no need for any restrictions to be imposed on activity either before or after the testing. There are no lasting side effects following the examination.
